Ownership

Get your heart racing!..

In good times and bad, we all need a little something to lighten our lives and give us a buzz.

Owning a racehorse is designed to do just that and really is affordable for everyone now.  Everyone can enjoy the fun and excitement of going racing to see their own horse – whether as an individual owner or as part of a syndicate…

We want you to be involved!  You are always welcome at the yard as are your family and friends.  Whenever you want to view your horses, you just need to ring Pat to arrange a suitable time.

The ownership option most suitable for you will vary depending on your budget and the amount of involvement you would like.  The different types of racehorse ownership are listed below.  For further details, the BHB website has produced a very helpful online ownership brochure which has loads of information for new owners.

Sole Ownership

This is the form of ownership when you are the sole owner. You are responsible for all costs and profits.  You have sole choice of colours and the name of the horse (if not already named).

Co-Ownership

Co-ownership of a racehorse involves more than one person. The 4 different types of co-ownership are listed below:

Company Ownership
This is a way of using your company to own a horse. It is a fantastic way of advertising your company or perhaps a way of bringing company members/employees together. You can name the horse after your company providing you buy a horse that is un-named. If an horse is already named, you can own it in under your company name.

Joint Ownership

This type of ownership can consist of between 2 to 12 people. The horse or horses can run in a joint ownership name.

Racing Partnership
This form of ownership can consist of between 2 to 20 people of whom 2 must become or perhaps already are registered owners.

Leasing

This form of ownership avoids a capital outlay for a racehorse.  It can be set up for a certain period of time, perhaps one season or for even longer.  This involves the owner paying for a horses cost of training for an agreed period however you enjoy the pleasures of going racing as an owner and also the prize money!

Racing Clubs

These have become a very popular way of dipping your toe in to the water and taking advantage of the social side of racing. There are several different Clubs at varying entrance prices. They are not an independent form of co-ownership. Therefore by joining or becoming a member of a racing club you receive all the benefits of that club but you are not entering into racehorse ownership yourself.
